Policy vs. Program
Many trucking companies and parcel delivery contractors have a footwear “policy” that prohibits open-toe and open-heel footwear and that recommends footwear that has a “slip-resistant” tread. However, employees are left to determine what footwear is appropriate – which isn’t always as easy as it seems, as many shoes that are marketed as “slip-resistant” are often not effective enough for the varied environments and conditions that they will encounter throughout their workday.
For a more effective approach, the slip-resistant footwear “program” made available to Midwestern’s policyholders offers your company the ability to ensure that the footwear worn by your employees meets a high standard of slip-resistance. That’s because all of the footwear offered through our slip-resistant footwear program has a coefficient of friction (COF) of 0.4 or higher.
Access to this program is limited to companies that maintain workers’ compensation though Midwestern Insurance Alliance. To request access to program’s website, please complete and submit the online form.
Note: Our program extends to independent contractor drivers used by your company if they are covered under your workers’ compensation or maintain occupational accident coverage through High Point Underwriters.
